A Conversation with the Commissioner of Early Education and Care

Meet the Commissioner, Sherri Killins on April 13th, 6-8pm, 10 Austin Street, Worcester, MA 01609. R.S.V.P to Donna Joppas at donna.joppas@massmail.state.ma.us or 508-798-5180 x203 with your name, address, phone number and email address.
As parents, and often consumers of early education and care programs and services, parents have an integral role in shaping the policies, programs and practices that are designed and supported by the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC). We are pleased to announce upcoming opportunities for parents to participate in a conversation with EEC’s Commissioner, Sherri Killins. The discussion will focus on developing effective communication strategies that EEC can employ that will help families understand the critical elements of high quality programming, including: curriculum and learning, the importance of early childhood environments as the framework for children’s learning, qualifications and professional development of early childhood educators, the key role families play as partners in their child’s education, and the role of leadership in early education and care. The conversation will focus on effective methods for providing parents with information and resources that help them become aware of current science related to raising young children and recognizing high quality programming. Thank you for your help and partnership as we develop a predictable system to support parents as their children’s first teacher.

The Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care provides the foundation that supports all children in their development as lifelong learners and contributing members of the community, and supports families in their essential work as parents and caregivers.
