Winter afternoons are the perfect opportunity to come to the Concord Museum. Visit for the first time or revisit favorite galleries, including the special exhibition, 'A little scrap for recollection’s sake: Quilts from the Concord Museum' – all free on the following Sunday afternoons: Sunday, January 9th from 1:00 – 4:00, Sunday, January 16th from 1:00 – 4:00 and Sunday, January 23rd from 1:00 – 4:00.

With one of the oldest collections of Americana in the country, the Museum is renowned for its national treasures. Thoreau’s house at Walden Pond, including the desk on which he wrote “Civil Disobedience” and Walden, and Ralph Waldo Emerson’s Study, where he wrote his influential essays and met with other distinguished writers and thinkers during the American literary renaissance. A nationally-significant collection of Concord-made clocks, furniture and silver and other decorative arts serve to illustrate three centuries of Concord’s domestic life. Bring the family and see the 15 minute film, “Exploring Concord,” enjoy treasure hunts for younger children and hands-on activities in many of the galleries of the Museum. Also on view is the special exhibition, 'A little scrap for recollection’s sake: Quilts from the Concord Museum.' Each quilt in this exhibition of a dozen from the Museum’s collection and two from Louisa May Alcott’s Orchard House has a story to tell about the makers, the communities they lived in and the era in which the quilt was made.

Beginning on January 1, 2011, Northborough Recreation will be opening its doors to a new facility. We acquired space at 38 South West Cut off in Northborough (formerly Noodle Noggin and Bean). There is about 2300 sq ft of open space for preschool and grade school programming. We will be running winter programs such as toddler cooking and music classes, grade school pj parties/movie nights, and preschool birthday parties during the week and on weekends. We welcome the public to come and see this beautiful new space in January.
Parents, come check out our new space and let your kids play for no charge! We are offering 1 week of free, open playgroups at 38 Southwest Cutoff: Monday, Jan.10: 9:30am – 12pm; Wednesday, Jan. 12, 11 – 1pm; Thursday, January 13, 12:30-2:30pm. Southborough Kindergroup will kick off the holiday season with their 33rd annual “Santa Day.” Santa will make his debut, arriving via helicopter on the front field at St. Mark’s School in Southborough (on the corner of Route 85 and Main Street) at 12:00pm on Saturday, December 4. Accompanied by his elves, Santa will head to the Southborough Community House where children can have their picture taken with Santa. The cost for admittance is $5.00 per child, or $10 per family. The event will include crafts for the kids, a picture with Santa, refreshments, and live entertainment, courtesy of Carrie Rowan of Merry Go Music.

Mom to Mom Program at Trinity Church, Bolton

The Mom To Mom program at Trinity Church in Bolton starts September 15, 2010 and continues every Wednesday through Nov. 17. Our desire is to reach out with love and support to moms, grandmothers, and other caregivers in our community. We meet in Fellowship Hall on Wednesdays from 9:15 - 11:00 at Trinity Church (www.trinitybolton.org) in Bolton, located at 14 Wattaquadock Hill Road (just off Route 117). The program starts with refreshments and coffee, then either a guest speaker or video on a variety of parenting topics, followed by small group discussion. Nursery care is available for infants through Kindergarteners, and a lending library is out every week. Moms of ALL ages are encouraged to come share experiences, gain and give support, and enjoy some time to reflect on the role God has given them in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. FRAMINGHAM, MA – If you head down toPinefield Shopping Center this week you might find a camel or kangaroo in your usual parking spot.

Once again, Records & Burpee Traveling Zoowill be set up in the parking lot directly across from the McAullife Branch Library June 9 – 13, 2010 from 11:00am until approximately 9:00pm.

The kids petting zoo, camel rides, pony rides, moonwalk rides and carnival foods concessions,(cotton candy, carmel apples, fried dough and more), are always a popular end of the school year treat for families with young kids.

The Traveling Zoo, named for owners Larry Records and Alexandra Burpee usually arrive with between 50 and 100 animals from their farm, (which is located in Dudley, MA).

You never what they might bring. In the past lemurs, zebras, toucans, kangaroos, leopard-like serval cats, coatimundi, South American alligators — and even an orangutan have made their way to Saxonville. Baby llamas, pygmy goats and other friendly farm animals fill out the petting and feeding area of the mobile zoo.

Pinefield Shopping Center is located on the corner of Water St. and Nicholas Rd. in Saxonville. The petting zoo, rides and concessions will be Wednesday through Sunday, (note: in past years the show has closed early on Sunday — so don’t want until the last minute!)

FRAMINGHAM, MA – The Framingham Rotary Club will be holding it’s Framingham Daze Family Fair and the much anticipated Duck Race on Saturday June 12, 2010 from11:00am until 4:00pm at Butterworth Park,(located at the corner of Grant St. and Bishop St.)

The Framingham Daze Family Fair will have something for everyone; a moonwalk, a dunk tank, pony rides, hay ride and petting zoo, face painting and temporary tattoos, local crafts, a bingo tent and food booths along the festival midway. A 5k race, vehicle show and tug of war competitions are also planned for the day.
The highlight of this year’s Fair is the 4:00pm “Duck Race”. Civil War Living History Day runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Union Common, at the corner of Rte. 85 and Main Street. Civil War re-enactors will offer demonstrations and march at 2 p.m. to the war's monument on Main Street.

The city will also ring the John Brown Bell - a rare occurrence - tomorrow at noon. Marlborough soldiers took the bell from Harpers Ferry, W.Va., following orders to preserve anything of value to the Union.

The weather outlook is not great. Forecasters see a chance of rain or thunderstorms for both tomorrow and Sunday.

Parade Schedule:
The main part of the parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Rugged Bear Plaza, where Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and a delegation of Native Americans will join veterans, the American Legion, the Sudbury Companies of Militia and Minute, the Sudbury Ancient Fyfe and Drum Companies and Company F, 12 Georgia Infantry.

The parade follows Route 20 and Concord Road, with stops at Hop Brook for a Maritime Ceremony, the Civil War Monument at the Goodnow Library, and the World War II, Korea, Vietnam and King Philip monuments at Wadsworth Cemetery.
